THE ATHENA INTERNATIONAL FOUNDATION award in Burleson, underwritten by Huguley Memorial Medical Center, is presented annually through the Burleson Area Chamber of Commerce.

There has been some confusion in the past as to who chooses the Award recipients.  While the ATHENA Society of Burleson is made up of all the current ATHENA Award recipients, we actually have nothing to do with choosing who will receive the ATHENA Award for the current year.

Nominations are solicited throughout the community and an ATHENA sculpture is awarded to an individual in the Burleson community who meets specific criteria listed below. 

Huguley Memorial Medical Center will put together a selection committee to review all the nominations, and like you, we will be informed of the newest recipient at the Burleson Chamber of Commerce's Annual Awards Banquet.

The Award criteria is a woman who

• Demonstrate excellence, creativity, and initiative in their business or profession.
   

• Provide valuable service by contributing time and energy to improve the quality of life for others in the community.  
   

• Actively assist women in realizing their full leadership potential.

There are currently 19 ATHENA Foundation Award winners in Burleson as of 2010.
